L & B's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad/Wet Day

We woke to a cloudy but pleasant day, with a plan to take the bus into Dubrovnik for some exploring! The bus stop is about a 7 min walk to the bus stop and then a 10 min drive to a stop near the famous and historical "Old Town". As we waited for the bus, it began to sprinkle,.....by the time the bus arrived, it was lightly raining and by the time we arrived in Dubrovnik, it was, full on raining! We were so glad we had taken our rain coats 'just in case'!!

We did not have any trouble finding the "Old Town" but, as we got to the entrance area, we were quite put off and overwhelmed by the magnitude of tourists all hanging around with umbrellas and rain gear.....a massive couple of cruise ships had docked and these passenger-tourists were hoping to see the sites! We thought that we might postpone touring this site, for a time and headed out, optimistically, on foot, in POURING RAINING to find a quiet restaurant where we could have lunch and maybe wait out the rain. Well.......we walked and walked and walked, as the rain pelted us, on NARROW sidewalks that often were squished between a stone wall and the street (with no room to even hold the umbrella I had bought!!).....being SPLASHED mercilessly by vehicles.....heading to an unknown place and NOT coming upon ANY restaurants, thinking that maybe if we just kept going, we would HAVE TO come upon a restaurant/coffee shop!!!!!! To make a long story short....we were soaked to the core, lost (or at least 'turned around' directionally) and VERY UNHAPPY!!!!  Unbelievably, we did not find a single coffee shop or restaurant!!!! We eventually (about an hour later) found our way back to our original bus stop (which we were thrilled & relieved to find!!), waited about 20 minutes in the continuing solid-down-pouring rain, while continuing to be splashed by cars! We were so grateful to get back to our Zaton Bay village (where the rain had stopped and the sun was trying to poke through) and our little apartment, looking and feeling like drowned cats!!!  We dried off, ate a LATE lunch, and had a nap!!

In the middle of our miserable, wet and disorientated experience,Lawrence asked me, " What is the name of that book, 'Alexander's Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day'???  .... This makes me think of it!"  "Yep! Me too.", I replied!
That  was it, for us today!!!

We did get a few pics, initially. The small city of Dubrovnik (population 42,000) looks like it will be amazingly beautiful and so fun to explore....on a NON-rainy day!!! Here are the few pics we took, today.....

Unfortunately and disappointingly, the forecast says it will rain all week!!!! I hope it will be wrong.......

  1. Oh dear! It does look like an amazingly beautiful place, and you will be exploring soon! Hoping that the forecast is wrong, but in the meantime I'm sure you will be enjoying your little piece of paradise on the bay!
