One week ago we arrived in beautiful Tavira!! It is hard to believe!! We have enjoyed every bit of our week (except for the bike spill yesterday) and although we have blogged most of our adventures each day, we thought we would end each week with a review of our favourite things as a way to reflect on & capture our top 12 (or so!! :) )! So.....for week # 1, here are our "Raindrops on roses....." :
1. Everything oranges....sun kissed on the trees......cut up and eaten fresh.....freshly squeezed, cold, delicious & sooooo refreshing!!
2. The Pastel de Nata (custard tarts).... They are to die for!!
3. Studio 39......our Tavira 'home' and the street we 'live' on!!
4. The incredibly delicious yogurt that comes in cute little, reusable jars.....
5. A 'dream come true' picnic on an exquisite beach.....
6. Fado in St. Luzia.....
7. Bike riding...... (Except for the scary crash experience!)
8. The community connections in the garden square.....
9. Sidewalk cafes ....... the wonderful tapas and main dishes......
10. The inexpensive locally produced food and drink.....vinho, olives, nuts, figs, cheeses, fruit.....the list goes on & on.......
11. Meals we made and enjoyed in our little apartment....
12. Ice cream cones & reading in the Garden Square......
13. Date night on Saturday ( tonight!!).... We went to an incredible classical guitar concert in a church so old it was last rebuilt in 1745!!!!! (Greg......you would have LOVED this church that oozed history! ). The concert, featuring a solo guitarist, was truly amazing.....giving us shivers at it's ability to tell the story, simply and powerfully, through (wordless) music and the facial expressions of the performer! It is part of a weekly concert series featuring classical music. It cost us 3 euro each for an hour's performance!! ( Michelle & Thomas & Lynne.....we know you would have LOVED this concert!!......we will try to go every Saturday, while we are here). From there, we had coffee at a street cafe then went for supper to place called 'the Tavira Lounge' that has been repeatedly and highly recommended. The food was so, so, good....we had grilled black pork and garlic, piri prawns. The dessert fell a bit short, unfortunately! Then we walked about the lively night streets soaking up the evening ambiance and reflecting on an incredible week spent in this magical place!
(These church pews were definitely designed to have the congregation sit up straight, during the service!!! :))
Post script from yesterday's post......I had a good nights sleep and woke up stiff but okay. Got ready for the day, then, was hit with extreme nausea and light sensitivity......had to lay down for the remaining morning. Scared the crap out of me! When I got up again, I felt stronger and better. I look like a battered wife and that is a bit embarrassing but....what can you do?!? We had a great afternoon and evening together but, had to slow down the pace! Thanks for the concern from many of you!!
Oh my gosh! So sorry to hear about your crash, but very glad to hear you are doing better! Great idea to share the hilights of your first week in Tavira- loved it! Take care!
ReplyDeleteThe nausea is not a good thing . . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to sum up a week. I am sure you would like to figure out a way to make this go on forever.
What a wonderful idea to do a list of your favorite things.... your pictures are really wonderful! The custard tarts look amazing... I wish I could try one! but your descriptions will have to do. The concert sounds like it was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you are up and about after your fall. Try to find a bike helmet, so that I don't worry about you.
