Ohhhh what a beautiful day we've had!!!! It was a pure blue sky all day and the temp was in the upper 20's!!!
After gathering our fresh food from the market, we got on our bikes and rode 2 km to catch the ferry that took us down the river to this sandy paradise of an island called Ilha de Tavira. On one side of the island is the Rio de Gilao and the tip of Tavira and on the other end of the island is the mighty Atlantic Ocean, in all it's splendid wonder!! Sand, sand and more sand!!!....kilometres and kilometres of sandy beach!! At this time of year, there were very few people but you can see how they are equipped to handle thousands of people that apparently come to the island in July and August!
Today, it was just Lawrence, I and less than 50 other people! We got a cabana and enjoyed walking the beach, finding beautiful treasures that the sea offered up to the us, on the beach, we had a siesta, we read our books and we totally enjoyed a picnic lunch, we brought, consisting of freshly baked bread, cheese, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and figs with almonds (all of which were bought at the market this morning)! We also brought a bottle of wine! We sat on this exquisite Mediterranean beach, watching the waves coming in, enjoying local food and wine AND feeling very grateful that we were having this 'bucket list' experience!
The clear ocean water was at first, VERY cold but as we walked, up the shore line, in it....it got much more enjoyable/comfortable to be in. Children were playing in the waves and as we watched them and heard their squeals of delight, we missed our precious Orion soooooooooooo unbelievably much! We hope, one day, he can join us on a holiday like this one!
We got a lot of sun today and are feeling the effects of that, this evening. As I write this short blog entry, I am sitting at our balcony with the doors wide open and I am savouring the amazing smell of the blossoming trees that are right outside our open window/doors......
If you are interested in knowing more about this top rated beach in Portugal, google: Ilha da Tavira and you will want to come here in the off season!!
Wish you could all escape the snow at home and be beamed here to have a beach day with us.....
Here are some of the 'treasures of the sea' that we gratefully received today.....
Here are the gems we chose from our walk along the beach.
A wave of water rolling back in, after sparkling the beach gems.
Kilometres & kilometres of clean, fine sand to savour and explore.
Beautiful, gentle waves rolling in, with their soothing, rhythmic constancy and, of course, the treasures they leave behind for us to chose from.
Bom appetite (bong a pe tee te)!!
A dream come true.... :)
Can you think of a better place to read a good book!?!
I gratefully receive this gift!!
Life is good!
This is like a description of paradise!! The picnic lunch sounds perfect! And what beautiful ocean gems you gathered!
